ya gotta believe
for those of you who know tim mcgraw but aren't old enough to remember his father tug mcgraw, here's a picture. for those of you who ARE old enough to remember, don't give up just yet. the phillies are losing 2 - 0 after five innings as i write this.
tug is the fourth from the left in the second row, number 45, (two over from Willie Mays) and was an excellent relief pitcher for that Mets team which won their division with only 82 wins. they went on to the world series that year and lost in 7 (and probably should have won).
he's the one who coined the phrase in the title of this post. and you Mets fans who are ready to give up should remember it.
ya gotta believe.

he's also known for a response he gave to a reporter who asked him whether he preferred grass or astroturf. he told the reporter, "I don't know. I've never smoked Astroturf."
